My first thought on listening to the jasmani garden was that it was learned from African women-song. But further delving revealed that the songs are actually ‘free vocalisations’ recorded by Deya while she was pregnant with her third child, and a conscious decision to honour her inner voice and inner culture. Deya believes that we each carry an ageless memory that circulates within our cells – the songlines of our soul. So the jasmani garden is a collection of Deya’s “soulsongs” which Deya has created to express love and gratitude, and sooth the restlessness of the heart and mind.
