PHYSICAL HEALING

Reishi, Ling Zhi: Mushrooms of Immortality
The iconic mushroom commonly known as Reishi (in Japanese) or Ling Zhi (in Chinese) is probably the most respected medicinal mushroom in Asia. Because of its rich history and long tradition of medicinal use, Ganoderma lucidum (in the strictest sense) is now one of the few mushroom species whose DNA has been fully sequenced (16, 113 genes). Paul Stamets divulges.

Nutrient Therapy
Nutrient Therapy is a way to combat illness without using drugs. This approach recognises that nutrient imbalances can alter brain levels of key neurotransmitters. These imbalances can override the genetic code and cripple the body’s protection against environmental toxins.  Fiona Wilson explains.

Yoga Can Shed Light on a New Life After Cancer
Yoga can help you adjust to a new life if you or those you are working with have been touched by cancer. Cancer, because of being a life-threatening illness, changes our relationship to life. Whatever you thought life was, becomes under revision; whomever you thought your beloveds were is now tested; and certainly the notion of tomorrow becomes different to what it was. The parameters that we used to measure our lives change and yoga can help shed light on new beginnings. Antonio Sausys elaborates.

The Agony and the Ecstasy of Lifestyle Change
Most of us know from experience that making lifestyle changes can be difficult. Sometimes years go by and we just don’t seem to be able to make the changes we desperately need to make such as quitting smoking, losing weight, getting back in shape, or kicking bad habits such as unhealthy eating. Then one day we walk out of the doctor’s office with a cancer diagnosis and we wonder why. Dr Marcus Sircus shares his thoughts on this elusive decision-making process.

EMOTIONAL HEALING

When We Feel Not Good Enough
The realisation that we are ‘not good enough’ is something that we all confront at some stage in our later childhood, adolescence or possibly in our early adult years. However, the root of this thought lies in our infancy or early childhood. This is another of the issues that as adults we need to unlearn. Anne Matheson explains.

MENTAL  HEALING

Pain and the Brain, Part II
In this second article in a two part series, James Bone elaborates on how you can understand pain and the messages it is trying to send you.

Is It All In The Mind?
The mind gives rise to thoughts and thoughts become beliefs that limit our ability to feel and act. Before thought there is consciousness – just being conscious. By seating ourselves in consciousness, rather than thinking, we can become a witness. We can watch as thoughts arise and as they fall away. We do not have to follow them or become immersed in them. A cool detachment is all that is required. Tony Caves elaborates.

Mindfulness as Medicine
Mindfulness isn’t what we think it is. Mindfulness isn’t anything that we think – it’s what we don’t think. Mindfulness isn’t something that other people do, it’s something that we all do. Being continuously rather than just occasionally mindful can help us get through a day, without getting unnecessarily upset by life. Mindfulness is an ancient, life-enhancing and healing technique that can help us remember our natural happy and healthy state, even if we think we’re too modern and busy to prioritise what’s really important. Mindfulness allows us to be fully alive to our life potential. Dr Stephen McKenzie explains.
